map of california and tuolumne county

Our county, pronounced “too AH loo me,” is located on the Eastern side of the Great San Joaquin Valley, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. We are about an hour from Yosemite, which straddles our county and the one next to ours. Click on the state icon for a more detailed look at our county. Our Society is located in Sonora, the county seat.

January’s programs!

At noon on Monday the 12th, the Tech Group met and had additional presentations on using “GoogleEarth.” This is a powerful and extremely useful tool which requires some study as evidenced by the number of people attending the meeting. Christine Childress and Judy Lewis each made wonderful presentations on different uses of GoogleEarth. Judy Herring polled the members present to learn that we would like to continue the study of this tool. It is suggested that members bring their laptops to the next Tech Groupm meeting in March.

After the Tech Group, the general meeting began at 2 pm. President Susan Strope announced the need for a Nominating Committee in preparation for the May annual election of officers. The Committee will be consituted by 3 Board Members and 2 members of the general membership of the Society. After the business portion of the meeting we had several members present their ‘family treasures”. It sparked memories of one member in particular who realized she did have a family heirloom/treasure after all! It was a fun and relaxing meeting.
